Instead of focusing on "how to" and "why not" the bigger question should be how we go about setting up environments that instill hope. Making a teacher's presence count in schools where adults are around. Where people take responsibility seriously and joyously. Where people take care of one another. The kinds of places where community gardens are begun and the public library stays open through the weekend. So that the cracks become too small for any child to fall between.
